The goal of this group is to get people familiar with some of the local
trails in a safe and supportive environment.
The group will meet at both
Gun Powder as well as Loch Raven trails.
We will start with 3 miles and work our way up to 6 miles.
The plan is to add 1 mile to the trail every 3 weeks.
No one will be left behind, but more advanced runners are more than welcome to run faster or longer.
If you are already “pounding the pavement” trail running is a great way to break up the routine.
If you are planning on doing some road races later in the season trail runs will make you stronger and
faster. It works muscles and tendons in a very differently from road running.
Trail running is easier on the joints, but works the smaller stabilizing muscles more.
The focus of this training will be on effort rather than hitting a certain
speed. Prior running experience is not necessary, but you should be
running throughout the week, not just on the trail runs in order to build
up stamina. The only requirements are a good pair of trail running
shoes (a must!) and a desire to get outdoors and put forth effort. Most
of these trails have some awesome hills and we will conquer them slowly.
FIRST RUN will start at the Gun Powder. We will meet in the
parking lot off Belair Rd. south of Mt. Vista Rd. Sweathouse run/Wildlands loop.

Morgan Mill Rd. and Loch Raven Dr.
Providence Rd. and Loch Raven Dr.
Possibly NCR trail off Carmel Rd. in Monkton for an “easy run”
Possibly Patapsco Valley State Park, but only if the group is willing to
